Imagine you post the first chapter of your book at 1:47 a.m., and convince yourself you’re only going to check the views once, and wake up three hours later to discover that 47 people have read it.
Forty-seven people.
Maybe one person left a comment, maybe someone is seriously already demanding Chapter Two with a deadline. It doesn’t sound like much. But for a writer, those 47 readers can be the beginning of something much bigger.
A writer doesn’t necessarily begin with a publisher anymore. They write a chapter, post it online and wait. Maybe ten people read it, or a hundred. Or one person leaves a comment saying, “OMG PLEASE UPDATE,” which, for a writer who has been staring at the same paragraph for three hours, is basically a standing ovation.
For some Ghanaian writers, that audience has become the beginning of another journey: from writing online to exploring opportunities to publish their work beyond the platforms where their stories found its first audience.
That journey is what Unspoken Words Magazine explored in collaboration with WattGH and Ghana Reads, speaking with writers who have experienced different parts of the transition from online storytelling to publishing on Amazon.
And it reflects a much bigger change in how writers begin.

J.B. BOZIE
As a young African girl living in the Diaspora J.B. has also felt drawn to her heritage and how stories of her people have been told across various forms of media, especially fantasy. This drive inspired her to write these tales herself with her opening her Wattpad account for all to read. Her book Misfit: The Bijun Legacy itself is, in fact, layered in meaning from the title to its characters, story, and world building. She relays the accounts of colonialism in the perspective she believes need to be addressed. Although her story primarily works on fiction, she understands her role as a creator of representation. The Curse of The War Horn being her next endeavour into her writing journey.
