If I Ever Wrote My Own Story

If I ever wrote my own story,
I would write myself as someone extraordinary.
I would write a book
from every lesson life has taught me.
I would fill its pages
with the experiences the world gifted me.
I would write about the person
I became after surviving every battle.
To many, I was merely an option,
but to myself,
I would always be the first
and most essential breath I ever took.
I would write about my thoughts,
and about the victories hidden within every defeat.
People believed
they had broken an innocent girl.
Yet I would write instead
about the strength and hope
I found after walking away from them.
This is how I would weave myself into words.
If I ever wrote my own story,
this is how I would write myself—
worthy, resilient, and extraordinary
