Late at night, when the world sleeps
All is peaceful and still
In the distance the sound of a faint rumble is heard and lightning electrifies the sky
From my bed, I yearn to hear the poetry of rain
Drops dancing on the rooftop
The melody of the drops splattering on the window panes
Listening carefully, the tired earth sighs with relief as the downpour washes away pain and grief
Sleepy children eager to jump into puddles, squeeze their eyes and count seconds till morning
Lovers dance and kiss with reckless abandon in the rain with a promise of eternity
Dreamers dream happily nestled in their beds
While even those who find life challenge say a quiet hopeful prayer
My heart beats in sync with the raindrops, as a faint hint of a smile crosses my lips
I sheepishly think of you, my love
This idyllic rainfall, this rebirth of new beginnings
How I love to listen to the poetry of the rain
