Out of Time

I have never been party to a crime,
but I had to, for I was running out of time—
time to make a name for myself,
time to put a trophy up on my shelf.
I felt it every day and night, the weight of nothing:
the heavy footsteps that fall while I'm running
against the wind and against time.
The sound fills my ears as the bells chime:
"Get a job, build a family, start a hobby,
find something good to write in your story."
My heart is pacing and my mind is full;
I fear I'd be left hanging like a fool.
Chasing a dream is always funny:
"You'll just go crying back to mummy."
They mock and whisper and gossip and curse,
and all I'm left with is my wounds to nurse.
But I know this cannot be my fate;
I know one day that I'd be great.
And so I pick up my note and pen
and write it all right then and there—
every thought, every feeling, every wild idea.
They're worth everything to me because they're divine,
and I know one day I'll leave this dirty den
for the whole world to see my perfect flair,
to see me as something more, like Rhea.
And so the stars shall perfectly align
to bring a dreamer her dream,
to see her smile beam,
her light shining,
her time biding
no more.
The world stands still in a trance;
the dreamer has but one chance.
The clock is no longer ticking,
the bells refuse to toll.
This time no one is nit-picking,
as the dreamer's story is told.
"My muse for “Out of Time” stemmed from a feeling we all experience at some point. The feeling of not doing enough, for reaching for a goal that feel just out of reach. Out of Time explores how it feels to finally have that dream materialize."
