Something Biblical

Something Biblical
There are words in me that are violent,
They are tired of excessive expression,
Of couching truths behind metaphor and simile,
I have this hunger to be raw and visceral and exposed,
And this means I must be soft,
I must remember that to open up I must let go.
This means I must be kind,
Without consideration for the logistics of a smile,
I must bare my teeth in that primal savage manner,
That sets my own heart alight,
With no concern for whether or not the fire catches,
This means I must love anyway,
I must dare to speak,
To tell you my heart aches,
my soul clambers to cradle yours,
There is a tenderness in me,
That rests in the shape of your name,
There is a hug that I hold back,
I fear that my arms would stay carved around the shape of you,
My heart would beat in time with yours,
I would inhale only your exhales,
I would tell you that I love you without ever speaking,
I would speak of nothing else,
My fingers would dance to the rhythm of your heartbeat,
My skin would cease to die where it touched yours,
And I would carry your warmth in my chest like a second heart.
There are words in me that are violent,
They would cut my tongue to ribbons in the speaking,
Every utterance of your name would be accompanied by the taste of blood,
A prayer to God sourced from the Old Testament,
A sacrifice that could only be expressed in the New,
A love,
That could only be described,
As something Biblical.
